After yesterday's climb up Torre dos Clerigos and the shelves of Livraria Lello, today trades bookshops for water and wine. You start with brunch at Zenith, then walk the upper deck of Dom Luis I Bridge, the same span the metro crosses, for the view every postcard in Porto is copying. From there it's a short walk to Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, whose round cloister and free belvedere give you the best angle on the bridge and the Ribeira skyline across the water. Lunch is at Mercado Beira-Rio in Gaia, a food hall right on the river where you can grab a window seat and watch the boats. The afternoon belongs to port itself: a cellar tour among the oak casks at Graham's, Taylor's, or Calem, followed by a seated tasting to compare white, tawny, and vintage side by side. The day closes at Barao Fladgate, Taylor's terrace restaurant, with dinner timed for sunset over old Porto.
Everything today is walkable, and that's the point. The longest stretch is Zenith to the bridge at about 26 minutes, so leave a little extra time if you're not rushing. After that, each stop is a short walk of 2 to 14 minutes, mostly downhill toward the river once you leave the monastery. No need for taxis or the metro unless the heat gets to you, in which case a cab from Mercado Beira-Rio back to your hotel is an easy fallback.
Vila Nova de Gaia across the river is where almost all the port houses actually age their wine, not central Porto, so today's shift south of the Douro is the real port country. Tipping isn't expected at cellar tastings but rounding up a euro or two for a good guide is appreciated. If you want photos without crowds, the belvedere at Serra do Pilar is far quieter early than it gets by midafternoon, so don't linger too long there. And note that the bridge's upper deck shares space with the metro, so stay behind the yellow line when a train passes.

Barao Fladgate
Douro Valley, Portugal
Last night ended at Barao Fladgate with a glass of port over the city, and today trades Porto's rooftops for the terraced hillsides of the Douro itself. The day starts early with pastries at Confeitaria do Bolhao before a long drive east, then unfolds slowly: a viewpoint over the folded vineyards at Sao Leonardo de Galafura, a tasting and vine walk at a quinta near Pinhao, lunch by the river, and an hour on the water in a traditional rabelo boat. By evening you're back in Porto for a francesinha nightcap, a fitting way to close out three days in the city. Since this is the trip's last day, there's no packing pressure for tomorrow, so let the afternoon on the river run at its own pace.
The drive from Porto to Sao Leonardo de Galafura runs about 94 minutes, so leave Bolhao by 8:15 at the latest to make the 10:30 slot comfortably. From there it's a short 28 minute hop to the Pinhao vineyards. Once in Pinhao, everything (the quinta, lunch, and the river pier) is walkable, 8 minutes or less between stops. The return drive to Porto after the cruise is the day's longest stretch at around 103 minutes, so plan to leave the pier by 5:15 to have breathing room before the 8:30 dinner reservation.
Pinhao's train station is worth a glance even if you're not catching a train, the platform walls are covered in blue and white azulejo panels depicting Douro harvest scenes, some of the finest tilework outside Porto itself. On the rabelo boat, sit on the side facing the terraced slopes rather than the water for the best photos, the light is usually stronger from the north bank in the afternoon. Port quintas expect you to spit or pour out unfinished tastings, no one will blink if you don't finish every pour. Back in Porto, francesinha is meant to be messy, they'll bring extra bread on request if you want to mop up the sauce.
